Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on October 9 and will undergo a knee replacement surgery the following day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan said on Wednesday. Giving details about the operation, Mahajan told reporters that Vajpayee will leave New Delhi for Mumbai either on the evening of October 8 or October 9 morning.
After his surgery, the Prime Minister could spend 5-7 days in hospital before shifting to Raj Bhavan for another 4-7 days, Mahajan said, adding that he was expected to return to the capital after a fortnight. Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai is all set to receive Vajpayee for the left knee joint replacement surgery to be performed by the New York-based orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat and his team.
All 13 rooms on the seventh floor and two on the sixth floor of the Hospital are getting a fresh coat of paint and will be cleaned and fumigated thoroughly, sources said in Mumbai. Ranawat, who visits Breach Candy every year to perform total knee replacement operations,
