The Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) concluded its eight-day dharna in New Delhi on Saturday with a vow to intensify the struggle, a defamatory notice served to a national daily and review petition filed in Supreme Court. "We are waiting for the decision and action of the president, as also the court's in re-looking at the contradictory, pro-establishment and anti-people verdict before further major course of action is announced by the movement," An NBA statement said. The dharna at Rajghat culminated a long march by over 2000 dam oustees from Dhadgaon, Maharashtra, which began on November 6 and another group, which started from the Narmada Valley in Madhya Pradesh on November 10. Meanwhile, NBA leader Medha Patkar termed the World Commission on dam's report, released by Nelson Mandela in London on November 16, as a tool but not the ultimate weapon for the struggle in Narmada and other river valleys. During their week-long protest in New Delhi the NBA met President K R Narayanan, who assured them of all possible steps that the Constitution empowered him with, the statement said. The dam oustees, led by Patkar, also met World Bank President John Wolfensohn, who promised to look into all aspects of relief and rehabilitation of Sardar Sarovar Dam oustees. A review petition was filed on Friday in the Supreme Court and the issue raised at a public hearing organised by Indian People's Tribunal, which also called for a review of the verdict, the release said.
