BJP President Bangaru Laxman on Saturday described the law and order situation in Assam as "very serious" and urged the Centre to depute a high level team to the trouble-torn state to see that the "violence unleashed by Pakistan's ISI in the name of ULFA is stopped forthwith." Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad, Laxman said that the violence perpetuated by ULFA in Assam is "disturbing" and had assumed serious proportions as it (ULFA) has now been infiltrated with ISI elements. "The situation is very serious and the state government was unable to control it," he said. "About 90 innocent people were killed in violence unleashed by ISI agents in a short span of one and half months," Laxman alleged and said "ISI in guise of ULFA is waging a proxy war. A Kashmir like situation is developing in Assam and other north eastern states." A three-member BJP team including Vijaya Goel, Ravi Prasad and Rajendra Goyan (all MPs) had recently toured the affected areas of upper Assam where eight persons were killed in the violence and met some of the survivors, Laxman said.
