Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday indicated that she may reconsider her decision to resign from the Union Cabinet, claiming that the Centre will take a decision on rolling back the prices of petroleum products at the Cabinet meeting slated for October 6. Addressing a press conferene in Calcutta, Ms Banerjee said: She said: ''The Vajpayee government has decided to reduce the prices of LPG, diesel and also kerosene.'' Ms Banerjee, who resigned from the Union government on September 30 protesting against the hike in oil prices, thanked the prime minister for his ''timely intervention'' in the matter and giving such assurance to her through his emissary Sudheendra Kulkarni. To a question on whether she was withdrawing her resignation following the assurance of oil price reduction, Ms Banerjee said, ''Let the assurances be implemented in the October 6 meeting and we will decide our future course of action after that.''
The Atal Behari Vajpayee government received a jolt when Ms Banerjee and Union minister of State for External Affairs Ajit Panja resigned on Saturday last protesting against the hike of petroleum products.
