Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who is progressing well after his left knee joint replacement surgery at breach candy hospital in Mumbai, will be discharged on Sunday and leave for New Delhi the same day, PMO sources said on Thursday. Vajpayee had his regular exercises and physiotherapy and took a walk for 15 to 20 minutes this morning apart from attending to official work.
The prime minister is relaxed and progressing well, Dr Nandu Laud, who assisted New York-based Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat during the surgery, told PTI. Vajpayee was admitted to the hospital on October nine and underwent the operation the next day.
Elaborate security has been maintained in and around the the hospital, which overlooks the Arabian sea. The make-shift PMO at Sahyadri, the Maharashtra government's official guest house at Malabar hill, will be winding up on Sunday, the sources said.
