The report was confirmed by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Wednesday as he said, "The 'adopted daughter' of the Dera chief appealed in the CBI special court that she be allowed in the court and also inside the jail, where Gurmeet is lodged as a prisoner."

"Honeypreet had appealed to be allowed inside the jail as a helper, however her plea was turned down by the authorities," he said.

The Chief Minister also defended the BJP government on a claim made by the Dera sect that the party came to power in the state with their support.

"It is a democracy. We appeal all groups and welcome their support. However, that doesn't mean that you will go against the law," CM Khattar said on Dera's statement.

Khattar also rejected the demand made by the Opposition for his resignation from the Chief Minister's Office.

"It doesn't matter what they say, but we are satisfied with our actions. Whatever we did was right. Now there is peace in Haryana," Khattar was quoted as saying. "Situation is normal. Have submitted a report to BJP president Amit Shah," he added further.

After over 35 people were killed in the violence by Dera supporters following its chief's conviction in rape and sexual assualt of two sadhvis, the Opposition demanded the sacking of Haryana Chief Minister saying he failed to gauge the situation and control it in time.
