New Delhi: As Cyclone Tauktae which has formed over the Arabian Sea heads towards Gujarat the Indian Metreological Department (IMD) has warned impact in five states with heavy to very heavy rains and strong winds gusting upto 175 Kmph.

The storm is likely to become a 'severe cyclonic storm' within the next 12 hours and a 'very severe cyclonic storm' by Sunday, said IMD forecast.


Meanwhile, in the wake of the Cyclone Tauktae the Western Railway announced that it is cancelling nearly 60 trains which would ply on the dates of May 15 to May 21.


"In view of the cyclonic warning storm ‘Tauktae’, it has been decided to cancel/short terminate some trains for the safety of passengers and train operations," said Western Railway in a statement.


The press release issued stated that due to the cyclone warning in the coastal Gujarat region on May 17 and 18 some trains will be cancelled/short terminated on the dates mentioned below.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has increased from 53 to 100 the number of teams earmarked to undertake relief and rescue measures in the wake of impending Cyclone Tauktae, a senior officer said on Saturday.
