New Delhi: JMM retained the Dumka Assembly seat is one of the 4 assembly seats in the Dumka district of Jharkhand. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Basant Soren won with total votes 95685. Soren won with a voting margin of 14588 votes against Bharatiya Janata Party's Sunil Soren.

Jharkhand's ruling alliance comprising the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and CPI-ML, stormed into power, thereby claiming stakes to form the second consecutive government.


This is for the first time in the state's political history that the incumbent government is retaining power for the second term because no government has ever been re-elected in the state.


A total of 13 candidates were in the fray for the Dumka Assembly seat including several independents. Some of the key candidates are -- Basant Soren (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), Babu Ram Murmu (Bahujan Samaj Party), Sunil Soren (Bharatiya Janata Party), Jitan Kol (Sampoorna Bharat Kranti Party), Ronald Murmu (Lokhit Adhikar Party), Sanjay Tudu (Indian National Socialistic Action Forces), Anos Marandi (Independent), Donald Hembrom (Independent), Masicharan Kisku (Independent), Mahendra Hembrom (Independent).



 


Dumka, an interesting constituency was won by JMM executive president Hemant Soren in 2019 state assembly elections. Soren took oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand for third time in July this year after Champai Soren resigned from the Chief Minister’s chair. Jharkhand Assembly elections 2024 recorded a voter turnout of 67.74 percent, the highest since the formation of the state in 2000. The polling was held in two phases -- 43 seats on November 13, and 38 seats on November 20.
