Isudan Gadhvi is AAP`s chief minister face for Gujarat Assembly polls, check other details
Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5, and the results will be declared on December 8
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday, November 4, 2022, announced the National Joint General Secretary of AAP, Isudan Gadhvi, as its Chief Minister candidate for the Gujarat Assembly Polls which is to be held on the first week of December. In a press conference, Arvind Kejriwal announced the new CM face.
The party made this announcement following a crowdsourcing campaign under which the people of the state could give their opinion on a number and an email id shared by the party until 5 pm, November 3. Apart from Gadhvi, AAP state unit president Gopal Italia and general secretary Manoj Soratihya were also potential candidates for the Chief Ministerial post.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal had launched the campaign on October 29 asking people whom they wanted as their chief ministerial candidate. Prior to the Assembly elections in Punjab, the AAP had conducted a survey in which Bhagwant Mann had been the clear popular choice. Mann went on to become the chief minister of the state.
As announced by the Election Commission on Thursday, the Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5, and the results will be declared on December 8, the Election Commission announced Thursday. In the first phase, polling will be held for 89 seats while the second phase will see voting for 93 seats. Gujarat has a strong 4,90,89,765 electorate, which includes 2,53,36,610 males and 2,37,51,738 females.
The term of the 182-member state Assembly ends on February 18, 2023. After the poll dates were announced, the Model Code of Conduct came into force in the state.
Earlier, the poll panel had announced the dates for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls. Election in Himachal Pradesh will be held in a single phase on November 12 and the counting of votes will be taken up on December 8. In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly polls too, elections were held in two phases, and the BJP was voted to power.
