Uttar Pradesh: The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday demanded a high-level probe into the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, adequate compensation for families of victims and the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, asserting that such incidents cannot be tolerated in a democracy and farmers have every right to protest.
Speaking to ANI, D Raja, CPI General Secretary, said that the Uttar Pradesh government has completely failed to address the concerns of farmers. "What happened yesterday in Lakhimpur Kheri cannot be tolerated in a democracy. Farmers have every right to protest, but the way BJP leaders are treating the farmers is atrocious, inhumane, cruel and insensitive," he said. (ANI)

India: "As a citizen, I think there should a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge. Before that, the union minister must be dismissed or suspended at least during the inquiry as the incident took place with respect to his convoy," said Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday demanded Rs 2 crores as ex-gratia and government jobs for the next of kin of the farmers who died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. Speaking to the media person while protesting outside his residence in Lucknow, Yadav said, "Rs 2 crores and government jobs should be given to next of kin of the farmers who lost their lives in the incident."
"Government does not want any political leaders to go there. What are they hiding?" he asked.

Lucknow: Police take Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav into custody outside his residence where he staged a sit-in protest after being stopped from going to Lakhimpur Kheri where 8 people died in violence on Sunday.
Uttar Pradesh: "We're taking this matter seriously & it is under investigation. CM has said that culprits will be punished. Opposition is using the incident for political tourism & political competition as polls are around the corner:," said UP Minister Sidharth Nath Singh on Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
Lucknow: Targeting the Uttar Pradesh government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was allegedly arrested on her way to the Lakhimpur Kheri, won`t relent and will continue fighting for justice.
"Priyanka, I know you won`t relent - they are stunned by your courage. In this non-violent fight for justice, we will make the country`s Annadata win," he tweeted.
Lucknow: Akhilesh sat in protest on the road outside his Vikramaditya Marg residence here on Monday. A police jeep, which was parked on the same road about 200 metres from Akhilesh`s residence, was set on fire.
Earlier, Akhilesh came out of his house around 9 AM, but was informed by the police that he would not be allowed to go to Lakhimpur Kheri. As SP workers shouted slogans and became aggressive, Akhilesh asked them to show patience and squatted on the road.
Uttar Pradesh: Death toll in Lakhimpur Kheri violence reaches 9 as Journalist succumbs to injuries. The body of a local journalist Raman Kashyap, who had been missing after Sunday`s violence, was found in the mortuary on Monday, taking the death toll to nine, including four farmers.

Uttar Pradesh: Heavy police deployment and barricading around Uttar Pradesh`s Lakhimpur Kheri district has brought life to a standstill as people including the locals are not being allowed to visit the area where violence on Sunday claimed at least eight lives.
Police personnel have been deployed around the adjoining villages including Palia, Puranpur, Bhira, Bijua and Khajuria among others. Also, vehicles are being stopped at least 60-70 km away from the violence site, which is nearly 40-45 km from the Dudhwa National Park.

On the other hand, Ashish Mishra Teni said that the allegations against him regarding the Lakhimpur Kheri incident are baseless and that he was not present at the scene of the incident. Denying the allegations put against him, Teni said that he was attending an event at Banbirpur at the time of the incident.

The Uttar Pradesh government has directed a judicial probe in Lakhimpur Kheri violence that killed eight people, including four farmers.
The violence, that erupted during a farmers' protest in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, has sparked widespread outrage. Many Congress leaders along with general secretary Priyanka Gandhi reached the violence-hit district's border on Monday (October 4, 2021) to meet the victims after the dramatic escalation of their 10-month long agitation over controversial new laws claimed the lives of four farmers.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait also reached the violence-hit area on early Monday. Additionally, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called upon farmers` organisations across the country to protest at District Collector`s and District Magistrate`s offices in all districts across the country today, between 10 am and 1 pm, over the death of the farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri incident in Uttar Pradesh.
The violence broke out during the farmers’ protest ahead of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to Lakhimpur Kheri. Some claimed that the violence started after a car mowed down the protesters and some unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at the farmers.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed grief over the incident and described it as "unfortunate". CM Yogi Adityanath said that "action will be taken against whoever is responsible."
