COVID-19: Number of containment zones in Delhi rise to 87

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection in India have crossed the 18,000-mark and 590 people have lost their lives.

  • Uttar Pradesh has 153 new coronavirus cases, total cases reach 1337. Of these, 1154 are active cases and 814 people related to Tablighi Jamaat.

  • Bihar: 13 more COVID-19 positive cases in Bihar taking the total to 126. 4 in Buxar, 1 in Patna, 1 in Rohtas and 7 in Munger. Buxar, Patna and Munger have COVID-19 positive cases while that in Rohtas is being confirmed.

  • Karnataka: 10 new cases have been confirmed in the state from 5 pm of April 20 to 5 pm on April 21. As of 5 pm, cumulatively 418 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, it includes 17 deaths and 129 discharges. Out of the remaining 272 cases, 267 COVID-19 positive patients (including 1 pregnant woman) are in isolation at designated hospitals are stable and 5 in ICU.

  • Coronavirus cases in Bihar rise to 115. A new district, Rohtas, has been added to the list of district with positive cases in the state.

  • A doctor from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, who was working in a district hospital in Baramulla, tested positive today. The test was carried out at SKIMS Srinagar. The doctor has been put under quarantine. Around 18 contacts of the doctor have been put under quarantine at GMC Baramulla. The doctor has also been kept in isolation.

  • Standing by Delhi Police, Railways make arrangements to provide 10,000 water bottles per day to Delhi Police personnel on COVID-19 duty. As the summer heat increases, Indian Railways with the help of its PSU IRCTC starts providing Rail Neer water bottles to policemen stationed  at Road Naakas and other places. Till now more than 50,000 bottles have been distributed. The arrangements will continue till May 3.

The state will treat them as Martyrs and provide state funeral with state honors.

     

  • Rashtrapati Bhavan clarification on COVID-19 positive case: No employee is coronavirus positive.

    Giving clarification on the ongoing media reports Rashtrapati Bhavan Press Release said, ''In view of the media reports and speculation about detection of a COVID-19 positive case in the President’s Estate, the following are the facts about the situation:

     a.   A COVID 19 positive patient from Central Delhi, who was neither an employee of the President's Secretariat nor a resident of the President's Estateexpired on 13.04.2020 with co-morbidities at B L Kapoor Hospital, New Delhi.

    b.   After contact tracing of the deceased, it was found that a family member of an employee of the President's Secretariat had been in contact with the deceased.

    c.   The employee along with the family is a resident of Pocket 1, Schedule A area of the President's Estate. As required under the guidelines, all the seven members of this family were moved to the quarantine facility at Mandir Marg on 16.04.2020.

    d.   Subsequently, one of the family members who was in contact with the deceased, tested positive. All other family members including the employee ofthe President's Secretariat have tested negative.

    e.   Following the instructions and guidelines of the authority designated under the Disaster Management Act 2005, read with Epidemic Diseases Act 1897, 115 houses in Pocket 1, Schedule A area of the President's Estate were identified for movement restriction and residents have been advised to remain indoors. The residents of these houses are being provided doorstep delivery of essential commodities.''

    f.   It may be clarified that till date no employee of President's Secretariat has tested positive for COVID-19 and the Secretariat alongwith the LocalAdministration is taking all the preventive measures required under the government guidelines.

  • Rajasthan: Rajasthan recorded 52 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the state's virus tally to 1,628, an official said. The state has so far seen 25 deaths due to the virus, with Jaipur accounting for 13 deaths, reports PTI.

  • Andhra Pradesh CM Jaganmohan Reddy called upon his  Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani over AP fishermen stuck in Gujarat due to the lockdown. Jaganmohan Reddy asked CM Rupani to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure that the wellbeing of these fishermen during the fight against COVID-19, to which the latter responded positively and assured the same.

  • Maharashtra: 472 more COVID19 cases reported in Maharashtra till 10 am today, taking total positive cases in the state to 4676. 9 more deaths have been reported, taking the total death toll in the state to 232.

  • Gujarat: Gujarat has developed a multiplexer device to augment the capacity of ventilators, which are in great demand in view of the rising number of coronavirus cases. Designed and developed by the Ahmedabad-based Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC), the four-way multiplexer splits oxygen supply from a single- source ventilator to four patients through inspiratory limbs or pipes simultaneously. The CMO further stressed that people traveling between Delhi and Ghaziabad are in danger of spreading the infection. DM Ajay Shankar Pandey passed the order. Essential goods and vehicles of unavoidable reasons will be exempted.

As per the Union Health Ministry’s figures, 945 new cases of coronavirus were reported in these 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in India to 18,601.


The total cases include 14,759 active cases while 3,251 have either been cured or discharged while one has migrated, the ministry said. The Union Health Ministry's figure also includes 77 foreign nationals.


The highest number of confirmed cases in India is from Maharashtra (4,666), followed by Delhi (2,081), Gujarat (1,939), Madhya Pradesh (1,485) and Tamil Nadu (1,520).
