    Solictor General Tushar Mehta said that "right now we have enough oxygen, if distributed rightly. We have enough quantity to supply oxygen to hospitals." 

  • We have secured another 12 ready-to-use cryogenic tanks to transport liquid oxygen from Dubai. The Indian Air Force is airlifting 6 of these tanks today to India: Adani Group 

  • Vinayak Hospital in Noida on Monday (April 26) put out an SOS call for depleting oxygen supplies. “Even after informing the administration, there has been no assurance of any help so far.” Neelesh Kumar, Medical Superintendent in Vinayak Hospital, told Zee News. The hospital does not treat COVID-19 patients.

  • An Air India flight, carrying 500 BiPAPs, 250 oxygen concentrators and other medical supplies from Singapore, landed in Mumbai on Sunday night. 

  • Uttar Pradesh's Meerut District administration made urgent arrangements for oxygen cylinders following oxygen crises at KMC Hospital. Akhilesh Mohan, CMO said, "There was oxygen crisis here, some cylinders have been arranged from medical college."

    Mishra said that strict action is being taken against those involved in black marketing of medical supplies necessary for treating COVID-19. "11 cases have been registered so far for black marketing or attempts of black marketing of Remdesivir. National Security Act (NSA) has been invoked in Indore and Bhopal. Further action is being taken in rest of the cases registered in Jabalpur, Ratlam & Indore," MP Home Minister was quoted as saying by ANI. 

  • Indian Air Force's C-17 Globemaster aircraft airlifts three empty oxygen tankers from Indore in Madhya Pradesh for refilling in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

  • Initially, the demand had come from Maharashtra & 7 tankers were loaded from Vizag. They travelled a distance of over 1800 kms & reached Nagpur & Nashik for the much-needed Oxygen. 3 tankers were moved from Lucknow to Bokaro, 1 tanker was unloaded at Varanasi: Railway Board Chairman Suneet Sharma said. 

    "Encouraged by this response & success, we've further moved 4 tankers from Lucknow to Bokaro. They have been loaded. They're about to start from Bokaro. We expect that by midnight, they'll be able to reach Varanasi & by tomorrow morning they'll reach Lucknow," he informed. 

    Sharma added, "5 tankers has reached Lucknow, they're expected to reach Bokaro tomorrow morning. So, these 9 tankers will carry approx 150 MTs of Oxygen, much needed for UP. We're in touch with govts of Delhi, MP, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh for Oxygen Express for their states."

  • Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel sends a tanker, carrying 16 tons of Oxygen, for Medanta Hospital, Lucknow that is facing oxygen shortage. The step has been taken upon a request by Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, over telephone: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's Office 

  • Four cryogenic oxygen containers arrived in India at Panagarh airbase in West Bengal from Singapore. The containers were airlifted in an IAF C-17 aircraft from Changi Airport in Singapore earlier this morning. 

  • Oxygen Express delivered nearly 150 tonnes of oxygen in the last 24 hours. Expresses arrived at Nashik and Lucknow with Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) for Maharashtra and UP respectively. Containers unloaded at Nagpur and Varanasi en route to supply LMO in these regions: Ministry of Railways informed. 

    "Third Oxygen Express also started its journey from Lucknow on Saturday and more trains are in the pipeline. Green Corridors are helping in fast movement of Oxygen Express," the Ministry of Railways was quoted as saying by ANI. 

  • Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh orders shutdown of operations in the state’s iron and steel industries to divert Oxygen for medical use, along with immediate establishment of Oxygen Control Rooms at the state and district levels amid escalating Oxygen crisis in the state: Punjab CMO (ANI input)

  • A tanker of oxygen arrived at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. It contained 2.5 tons of oxygen that could last for four to five hours.

  • Dr SCL Gupta, MD at Batra Hospital in Delhi broke down as he spoke about the dire oxygen crisis. He said, "We are requesting people to take their patients wherever O2 is available. We understand patient is someone's mother, father.. if I lose someone close, I'd naturally feel bad."

  • "Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to review steps taken to boost oxygen availability in the country. He emphasised that there was an immediate need to augment the supply of medical-grade oxygen as well as equipment required for patient care both at home and in hospitals," the Government of India (GOI) said in a statement. 

    "PM stressed all ministries and depts need to work in synergy to up availability of oxygen and medical supplies. It was decided to grant full exemption from Basic Customs Duty and health cess on import of items related to Oxygen and Oxygen related equipment for 3 months with immediate effect," the statement added. 

    The basic customs duty on import of COVID-19 vaccines has also been exempted. "PM directed Revenue Dept to ensure seamless & quick custom clearance of such equipment. It was also decided that Basic Customs Duty on import of Covid vaccines be also exempted with immediate effect for 3 months," ANI quoted GoI as saying. 

  • "Since the last two weeks, there is a drastic increase in demand for medical oxygen. We are trying to meet this increased demand. We've stopped the production of oxygen for industrial use," said Aparna Nayar, Manager at Southern Gas Ltd in Thiruvananthapuram. (ANI input)

  • We are closing the admissions because of an oxygen shortage. We are discharging the patients: The COVID-19 in-charge of Saroj Hospital in Delhi was quoted as saying by ANI. 

    "We haven't received backup oxygen supply yet. We have 70 patients who are in critical condition and need oxygen. If we don't get oxygen supply there could be a big disaster. We have started discharging patients," he added.

  • The Delhi Police on Thursday (April 22) arranged oxygen supply for Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh after they were informed of a shortage by the hospital officials. The police officials of North-West district arranged one truck with 1.5 tonne oxygen from Bawana and another truck with 2.5 tonne oxygen from Bhiwadi. The timely action saved the lives of more than 200 COVID-19 positive patients.

New Delhi: In the wake of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the country is struggling to cope up with the growing demand for oxygen, hospital beds, medicines and other essential items. There have been reports of oxygen shortage from various parts of the country. There have been successes and failures in this battle for oxygen.

The Centre has directed installation of 551 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Medical Oxygen Generation Plants inside public health facilities as the nation grapples with oxygen shortage. The PM CARES fund, set up for combatting the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, will be utilised for the establishment of these plants.


The Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre in south Delhi will be operational from 10 am on Monday (April 26), an official statement said. 


Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday (April 25) said that a portal has been set up for better management of the oxygen supply between the Centre, states and Oxygen manufacturers. 


47 of the 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, will get medical oxygen plants under the PM CARES Fund to overcome the oxygen shortage faced by COVID-19 patients, a government release said.
