J&K: Swedish national killed in avalanche in Gulmarg, one missing skier found

GULMARG: One Swedish national has been killed in an avalanche that took place near the second phase of Gulmarg Gandola on Apharwat Peak.

One skier had also been missing in the avalanche but has been located and rescued by the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The authorities had issued an avalanche warning for seven districts of Kashmir till Thursday evening. The warning was issued in view of forecast of rain or snow in the Valley.

The warning had been issued for avalanche prone areas in Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts of Kashmir division.

All deputy commissioners concerned had been asked to take all precautionary measures to avert any untoward incident. Authorities had also asked the public to not venture into these areas during the warning period.
