Srinagar: Two soldiers were martyred in a gunfight between security forces and terrorists on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, reports said on Friday.

One terrorist associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), identified as Badar, was eliminated by the security forces in Pulwama's Samboora village.


Police and the security forces started a cordon and search operation in Samboora village near Pampore town in Pulwama on Thursday evening following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there. However, as the security forces closed on the hiding terrorists they were fired upon and retaliated, triggering the gunfight.


BJP youth leader killed


Suspected militants killed a Bharatiya Janata Party youth leader in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.


The throat-slit body of Gowhar Ahmad Bhat was found in a south Kashmir village Kiloora.


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah condoled Bhat's death, calling him a "martyr".
