It also dismissed the plea seeking compensation from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Governments for the loss of property during the Cauvery water related dispute between both the states.

The two states have been in a tug of war over Cauvery River water for several decades.

After years of negotiation, Cauvery Waters Tribunal in 2007 allocated 419 billion ft³ of water annually to Tamil Nadu and 270 billion ft³ to Karnataka.

However, the dispute between failed to resolve with state filing several petitions since.

Despite SC orders and directions of Cauvery River Authority, Karnataka refused to release water citing lack of enough water resources in the state for farming and drinking and drought conditions.
