Man held for abduction demanding ransom
A 36 year-old man has been arrested for abducting a resident of Kambalabettu near Vittal in Bantwal taluk and demanding a ransom of Rs two lakh from his family to release him.
Mangaluru: A 36 year-old man has been arrested for abducting a resident of Kambalabettu near Vittal in Bantwal taluk and demanding a ransom of Rs two lakh from his family to release him, police said.
The arrested person has been identified as Jogi Haneef who had allegedly abducted Razack (30) with the help of two others on March 19 by forcing him into a car from Kambalabettu.
They snatched Rs 10,000 from him and called his family members demanding the ransom, police said.
Razack was also attacked with sharp weapons inside the car,they said.
On getting information, police chased the abductors and found their car abandoned at a deserted place near Deralakatte.
Police arrested Haneef from Kodapdavu near here yesterday and recovered Rs 4,000 in cash, a mobile phone and weapons.
Haneef had earlier been arrested for ganja peddling, police said, adding, they are on the lookout for two of his associates who escaped.
Razack has been hospitalised at Deralakatte, police said.
