Besides eleven, the court granted life imprisonment to one of the accused and three-year imprisonment to the one other accused in the case for providing shelters to the assailants who fled after committing the crime.

As per the prosecution, the accused armed with swords and rods launched an attack on the DYFI activist on the night of April 1, 2008, in front of the Regional Passport Office at Kaithamukku.

Vishnu was believed to be the main conspirators behind the attempt on the life of RSS leader Thirumala Hari. The investigation revealed that RSS activists killed Vishnu in an act of revenge.

Out of the total 16 accused in the case, one died in 2008 and another was acquitted by the court on Friday while one is still absconding.
