Amid ongoing counting of votes, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Assembly elections by a majority.
Sawant also said that in the 40-member Goa Assembly, as many as 20 seats are confirmed for the BJP, while for three seats, the party has "confirmed support".

Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to retain power in Goa as it is emerging as the single largest party in the 40-member Goa Assembly. Goa has a total of 40 assembly seats and a party needs 21 seats to form a government in the state.

Amid predictions of a hung assembly, leaders of BJP and Congress in Goa would be keeping a close watch on the results of assembly elections on Thursday to assess their chances of forming government in the state.

Goa set for counting of votes from 8 am
New Delhi: The fate of Manipur and Goa, which went to polling for a new assembly, was decided on Thursday (March 10).
BJP is returning to power in both Goa and Manipur.
All the 40 assembly constituencies of Goa went to polling in a single phase on February 14 with a voter turnout of nearly 79%. Similarly, Manipur had voted in two phases – on February 28 and March 5.
The voters’ turnout in Goa was nearly 79% with a large turnout from Sanquelim, where Pramod Sawant, the CM and BJP leader, is a candidate. While in Manipur, the recorded voters’ turnout was 78.03% and 76.6% respectively.
Meanwhile, as per Zee News Exit polls, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to win 32-38 seats out of the 60-seat Manipur. Congress, on the other hand, is likely to get 12- 17 seats. While the NPF may win 3-5 seats, the NPP is expected to get 2-4 seats.
Meanwhile in Goa, the Congress alliance is predicted to bag 14-19 seats, followed by BJP which can secure around 13-18 seats. The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) alliance is likely to win 2-5 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and others can win 1-3 seats each.
