CBI files charge sheet in Dhanbad judge murder case

The CBI has filed the charge sheet against auto-rickshaw driver Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma. They are both in judicial custody. The case was handed over to the CBI by the Jharkhand government.

  • The CBI has filed a charge sheet against two accused in the alleged murder of Dhanbad Judge Uttam Anand, who was mowed down by an auto-rickshaw on July 28, officials said on Wednesday (October 20). The CBI has filed the charge sheet against auto-rickshaw driver Lakhan Verma and his accomplice Rahul Verma. They are both in judicial custody, they said. CCTV camera footage showed that the judge was jogging on one side of a fairly wide road at Randhir Verma Chowk in Dhanbad when a heavy auto-rickshaw veered towards him, hit him from behind and fled the scene, killing him.

  • Jammu and Kashmir police nabbed one person during a Joint Naka at Drabshalla Thathri, Kishtwar district at around 5:30 pm on Wednesday (October 20). Police also recovered a hand grenade from him. The arrested terrorist belongs to LeT and was sent the grenade by LeT terrorist Khobaib, based in Pakistan.
     

  • Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has finally been granted permission to go to Agra after being detained for nearly two hours in Lucknow. The Congress leader has been allowed to proceed to Agra with four persons since Section 144 is in place. Meanwhile, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday (October 21) will launch a song and an audiovisual film to celebrate the milestone of administering 100 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses. As per an official release, Union Minister Mandaviya will launch a song and an audiovisual film at Red Fort in the national capital. 


Taking the improved COVID-19 situation in view, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday (October 20) lifted the night curfew between 11 PM to 6 AM. The state reported 11 fresh cases on Wednesday and there are 112 active cases, a senior health official said, adding that 16,87,048 patients have recovered from the virus till now.


Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was on her way to Agra to meet the family members of a man who died in police custody, was stopped at the Lucknow-Agra expressway on Wednesday (October 20).
They said the Congress general secretary was stopped as the Agra district magistrate had requested not to allow any political personality to go there following the man's death.


A special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court in Mumbai rejected the bail plea of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan. The order was passed around 2:45 PM and the star kid will remain in the Arthur Road Jail. Aryan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in the Mumbai cruise ship drugs case earlier this month.


In other news, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport and launched various development projects there during his visit to the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister also took part in an event marking Abhidhamma Day at the Mahaparinirvana Temple in Kushinagar.


The Supreme Court also heard the matter pertaining to the October 3 violence in Lakhimpur Kheri. The apex court pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for delay in recording statements of witnesses before a judicial magistrate.
