Basti parliamentary constituency comprises of five assembly segments namely Harraiya, Kaptanganj, Rudhauli, Basti Sadar and Mahadewa.
In 2014 Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janata Party's Harish Chandra alias Harish Dwivedi had won the seat with a margin of 33562 votes.
Harish bagged 357680 votes as against Samajwadi Party's Brij Kishor who stood at the second spot with 324118 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's Ram Prasad Chaudhary had come third with 283747 votes.
