Ratlam: A 20-year-old Bajrang Dal worker was allegedly killed here by unidentified persons, and police have arrested five suspects in this connection.
The incident took place late on Thursday night following which tension gripped the city.
After the incident, some private schools in the city declared a one-day holiday on Thursday.
"The Bajrang Dal worker, identified as Tarun Sankhla, was killed by unidentified attackers at College Road under Station Road Police Station when he was returning home late last night," Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Singh said.
Sankhla was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, the officer added.
"Police have got some vital clues. Five suspects have also been arrested. We are going through the CCTV footage of the area," Singh said.
The funeral procession of the slain worker was taken out today under heavy police protection, as some right wing organisations called for a bandh in the city today.
He said that although there is peace in the city, security has been beefed up to prevent any untoward incident.
Some private schools declared a holiday this morning following the murder. However, District Collector Tanvi Sundriyal said no order was issued by the administration to keep the schools shut.
"Some schools might have decided on their own to remain shut. No preventive order was issued in the city. However, security has been beefed up to avoid any untoward incident," she said.
