Gondia: A trainer aircraft of a private aviation academy crashed into a river on Maharashtra`s border with Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, killing two persons.

Pilot Ranjan Gunta and student pilot Himani died when the National Flying Training Institute (NFTI) aircraft crashed at around 9.30 am into the Vainganga river, police said.


According to Balaghat district Khairlanji police station in-charge Amit Jadhav, the four-seater craft left Birsi airport in Gondia, Maharashtra, in the morning.

The trainer aircraft, while flying over the river, got entangled in wires spread across it to measure the water level, the official told news agency IANS.

The accident happened near Lavni village, along the border of the two states, but falls within Maharashtra.


Portions of the aircraft debris have been recovered from the river bank.
