Mumbai: Solomon Deksisa from Ethiopia won the Mumbai Marathon with a time of two hours, nine minutes and 33 seconds on Sunday.

It is the 15th edition of Mumbai marathon in which nearly 44,407 runners took part.


Considered the largest marathon in Asia, the Mumbai Marathon caters a large number of people. It is the largest mass participation sports event in the continent.


The one-day marathon event happened in six categories and kicked-off at 5.40 am from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.


India's Gopi Thonakal, a gold medalist at the Asian Marathon Championship, won the Indian Men's Elite category.


Amane Gobena claimed top honours in the International Women's Elite Category.
