Hyderabad: The Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh will give 'Ramzan Tohfa' to about 10 lakh BPL Muslim families in the state on the eve of Id-ul-Fitr.

The gift hamper consisting of 5 kg wheat flour, 2 kg sugar, 1kg vermicelli and 100 gram ghee will be handed over to the beneficiaries from July 1 to 7 through ration shops across the state.


As per a TOI report, the Ramzan gift will costs the tate exchequer about Rs 60 crore.


It is not the first time that Naidu has opened the government's coffers for distribution of gifts.


The scheme is going on since January 2015 when the AP government gave Pongal gift worth Rs 280 crore to 1.6 crore BPL card holders. It was followed by a similar gift to Christians on Christmas.


The government's populist measure come at a time it is facing a severe financial crunch.
