"Wearing helmet is compulsory for two-wheeler drivers. Driving without helmet is punishable. Pillion riders must be alert on this, otherwise they will be penalised," Anand said in a press release here.

"So far a penalty of Rs 300 was imposed on two-wheeler drivers, who drive without helmet in Rajahmundry RTO office premises, according to the rules laid down in the Motor Vehicles Act," he said.

An awareness campaign on helmets will be organised, he said.

40 vehicles were seized by the Regional Transport Office on various grounds, which would be auctioned shortly, he added.
