New Delhi: A medium intensity earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale on Tuesday hit Barpeta district of Assam.

According to the National Centre of Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 5:25 PM at a depth of 10 kms.


The northeast region lies in one of the high seismic activity areas of the country.


In January this year, a strong 6.8 magnitude earthquake epicentred in Manipur struck the northeastern and eastern regions of the country and claimed nine lives.
