From eating soap to fainting on the street: The fate of tipplers in `dry` Bihar

After Gujarat, Nagaland and Mizoram, Bihar is the fourth state to go dry.

Patna: The liquor ban imposed by the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has hit the tipplers hard with many exhibiting severe withdrawal symptoms.

The Bihar government had implemented a ban on sale and consumption of country-made liquor from April 1; the CM later extended the ban to IMFL and other forms of spirits as well.

A total ban meant that those who loved their drink were left with to satiate their 'thirst'.

As per a report in the Dainik Bhaskar, Ghiassuddin, a native of Betiah, was addicted to country-made liquor for the last 20 years. After his drink was banned on April 1, he started to become restless and after two days, he suddenly started to eat soap! His family members brought him under control after much difficulty and later admitted him to a de-addiction centre.

Another addict, Rahgunanadan Basera of Motihari, fell down unconscious after two days without liquor. He has been admitted to a hospital.

As per the report, over 50 people have been admitted to de-addiction centres in the last four days.

After Gujarat, Nagaland and Mizoram, Bihar is the fourth state to go completely dry. However, Army canteens in the state will continue to sell alcohol as earlier.
