Raipur: Eighteen people were killed and 45 sustained injuries after the driver of the bus in which they were travelling apparently lost control and the vehicle fell off a bridge, officials said.

The accident took place late Wednesday night and the bus was travelling from Garhwa in Jharkhand to Chhattisgarh capital Raipur. There were at least 80 people in the bus.


Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh met the injured at a Raipur hospital on Thursday.


He expressed condolences over the incident and announced an assistance of Rs.25,000 to the families of the deceased, officials said.
