The Youth Congress workers, led by state unit chief Uttam Vasudev, were detained while they were heading towards the Collectorate office when they were stopped and detained by the police at a place in its close vicinity.

During the protest, the workers pressed for various demands, including the resignation of state Food Minister in connection with the alleged civil supply scam and also sought Rs 300 bonus to paddy farmers.

"A total of 36 workers, including Vasudev, were arrested and later released on bail bonds," Raigarh Sub Divisional Officer of Police Satyendra Pandey said.

Police used water cannons and mild force to stop them from marching ahead.

Youth Congress leader Rakesh Pandey said that the ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh had promised in its poll manifesto to provide Rs 2,100 support price to farmers on procuring their paddy and bonus to farmers.

"However, so far it has not been fulfilled," he said.

"The party workers staged a protest raising all these issues along with withdrawal of the land acquisition bill, resignation of food and civil supply minister Punnulal Mohile over corruption recently unearthed in civil supplies corporation," Pandey said.
