Police said Singh, co-incharge of the party's Gujarat affairs, had informed Delhi Police about joining the probe on September 16, but failed to appear before the investigators.

An NBW against Singh was obtained from the court on Thursday evening, a senior police officer said.

"A case of extortion was registered against Gulab Singh and his associates, including his driver and personal staff, following a complaint by property dealers Deepak Sharma and Rinku Diwan," Joint Commissioner of Police (South Western Range) Dependra Pathak told IANS.

The complainants claimed that Singh and his associates Satish, Devinder, Jagdish and others are involved in extorting money from builders who were often threatened with demolition of their buildings, Pathak said.

A case under Section 384 (punishment for extortion) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Bindapur police station on September 13.
