A mother's instincts are at its peak when her baby is faced with grave danger. How she pines for her offspring when she loses sight of them and will do anything to unite with them, can be seen in the video you are about to watch.

The video, shared by National Geographic, shows how a seven-day-old bison is swept away and separated from its herd including his mother, while trying to cross the rapid currents of the Lamar river in northwestern Wyoming.

The young bison washes ashore on a gravelly area, hungry and low in energy. Night falls and the bison finds himself all alone the next morning. But is he really?

Predators are never too far away, especially when there is a possibility of an easy, helpless prey. A wolf soon spots the bison and the tussle begins.
