Islamabad: While the `Modi wave` swept India these General Elections, the news of Narendra Modi`s victory got splashed in the Pakistani media.
As it became clear that Narendra Modi will be India`s next prime minister heading a BJP-led NDA government, the Pakistani media highlighted the news in a big way. Dawn.com carried the news of Modi`s victory as the lead, with the headline “BJP declares `new era` for India as Congress concedes defeat”.
`The News` said “Modi (was) poised for victory as India veers right”.
“Narendra Modi closed in on a landslide victory in India`s election Friday as results showed him riding a wave of support for promises of jobs and development that has drowned out his past as a religious right-winger,” The News website reported. `The Express Tribune` carried live updates on India`s election results, and highlighted Modi`s landslide victory.
`The Nation` carried the headline “Landslide victory for Modi, Congress accepts defeat”. However, the paper`s website didn`t highlight the news in a big way. Prominent Pakistani TV channel `Geo.TV` carried the news with a photo of Modi being garlanded.
