China has presented the United States with an exaggerated one-million-dollar bill for expenses incurred by a downed US spy plane and its crew, a US official said on Saturday. They presented US with what we considered somewhat exaggerated charges, A senior US official said on condition of anonymity.
The final total was in the order of one million dollars, the official said. Included are expenses of the 24-member crew, which was detained for 11 days after its EP-3 surveillance aircraft made an emergency landing on China's Hainan island on April 1. Other repatriation charges were also included, as well as expenses linked to the recovery of the aircraft, which finally arrived back in the mainland United States in pieces on a cargo plane Thursday.
