The CBI, which is probing whether Mohammed, leader of the suicide attack on Parliament on December 13 was one of the hijackers, has sent the evidence collected including the photographs to Central Forensic and Scientific Laboratory for examination. Highly-placed CBI sources said that the agency could not arrive at any conclusion on hearsay basis and would have to have a documentary evidence to be produced before the court of law as all the 10 accused in the hijacking had been chargesheeted. The sources said that the CFSL would ascertain whether the photograph of Mohammed was actually that of Sunny Ahmed Qazi alias ‘Burger’, who killed Rupin Katyal, the only victim in the five-day old hijacking episode that ended in southern Afghanistan city of Kandahar on December 31, 1999. The Delhi Police had informed the CBI formally on Tuesday to verify the statements made by three of the four arrested persons -- Mohammed Afzal, A R Geelani and Shaukat Hussain --in connection with the audacious attack on Parliament.
The trio reportedly told Delhi Police and Jammu and Kashmir Police separately that Mohammed was the person who had killed honeymooner Rupin Katyal.
The sources said that a CBI team had started working in this direction and will ascertain whether the photograph of Mohammad, leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide squad, was actually that of ‘Burger’, involved in the 1999 hijacking of IA plane from Kathmandu.
