City police on Monday night refused permission to M K Stalin, DMK's candidate for Chennai Mayorship, for holding a fast infront of Raj Bhavan on Tuesday to protest against alleged intimidation of officials involved in counting of ballots polled in the recent civic elections. Traffic would be affected if the applicant was allowed to hold the fast at the venue he had preferred, a police release said.
Besides, police also apprehended law and order problem by some miscreants who were likely to use the situation for their own. Earlier, DGP B P Nailwal said he had forwarded Stalin's application to the police commissioner for necessary action.
Pointing out to delay in the announcement of results for the mayoral post and alleging irregularities, Stalin, son of former chief minister M Karunanidhi, earlier said he would go on an indefinite fast along with members of DMK youth wing if the results were not announced within a reasonable time.
