12 November 2001: An American Airlines A-300 crashes in a residential area of Queen's, New York, with an estimated 246 passengers and nine crew on board.
4 October 2001: A Russian Sibir Airlines Tupolev 154 en route from Tel Aviv to Novosibirsk in Siberia explodes in mid-air and crashes into the Black Sea, killing 78 passengers and crew.
3 July 2001: A Russian Tupelov 154, en route from Yekaterinburg in the Ural mountains to the Russian port of Vladivostok, crashes near the Siberian city of Irkutsk, killing 133 passengers and 10 crew.
