BJP on Friday began preparations for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections with a brainstorming session of its state executive, which debated the Ayodhya issue and gave a call for increased vigilance in the temple town. A political resolution passed at the two-day executive did not touch the issue of a ban on the Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) which had dominated the party's Sultanpur and Jhansi meets.
The meeting condemned the attacks on Ramjanmbhumi Trust president Paramhans Ramchandra Das and vice-president Nritya Gopaldas in the recent past, but skirted the demand for a temple at ayodhya.
The resolution, presented by state urban development minister Lalji Tandon, praised the party for the ''good work'' done by its governments in Uttar Pradesh and at the Centre.
