The state tourism department would provide Rs 40 lakh for giving a facelift to the 200 year old monument Hawa Mahal (palace of wind) in Jaipur, it was officially stated.
Extensive conservation work would be undertaken from this financial assistance, an official release said. The multi-story building of Hawa Mahal, constructed by erstwhile ruler Pratap Singh, attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world every year. The old building was affected by nature and pollution but finances had been the main constraint in its conservation. A paltry budget of Rs1.19 lakh was provided in 1998-99, Rs 5.5 lakh in 1999-2000 and Rs.2.71 lakh in 2000-2001, the release said. Bureau Report
