As per a report in India Today, when asked about his views on the claims that one of the world wonders Taj Mahal was actually 'Tejomahalay', a temple of Lord Shiva, Khan said he too supports such claims, but at the same time also dared Shiv Sena to go and demolish it like the contentious Babri Masjid structure.

The UP minister was in Agra to chair a meeting when he made this statement.

Further equating the RSS with mythological character 'Kans', Khan said that Kanhaiya will bring about the end of the RSS and its fake nationalist ideology.

However, the leader's remarks on Taj Mahal did not go down well with many members of Muslim community as some even went on to call him 'insane'.

“There was a time when Azam Khan was a member of the Babri Masjid Action Committee and a well-wisher of Muslim rights and now the same person is advocating for demolition of the Taj Mahal, when he is fully aware that the Holy Quran is inscribed on the Taj Mahal and even talking about the demolition of the monument is sacrilege in the eyes of Islam," Bhartiya Muslim Vikas Parishad chairman Sami Agai was quoted as saying by India Today.
