`Cops on Dawood`s payroll`: SC rejects plea seeking probe against Mumbai Police
Singh said corrupt elements in the Mumbai Police had foiled a secret operation against Dawood Ibrahim.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court, Monday, refused to entertain a plea seeking probe against Mumbai Police based on statements made by former Union Home Secretary RK Singh.
Singh – in August 2015 - had alleged that a few corrupt officers from the Mumbai Police work on Dawood Ibrahim's payroll.
Singh said corrupt elements in the Mumbai Police had foiled a secret operation against India's most wanted terror operative Dawood.
The operation was launched when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister and current NSA Ajit Doval was at the Intelligence Bureau.
The Indian government was training some elements from the Chota Rajan gang when Mumbai officials who were supposedly in touch with the Dawwod gang landed up at the training camp with warrants against the covert operatives.
"A group was being trained to target Dawood but he had people in Mumbai police on his 'pay roll' who were alerted. The Mumbai police came saying there is a warrant against them. But I cannot say it is confirmed. I have just heard...I don't have evidence," he said.
