In a shocking statement, Anwar told a news channel: “Good that Irani has been elected as textile minister; it will help her cover body.”

The JD(U) leader then tried to dilute his statement, adding that he “was referring to the bodies of the people in general”, reports ABP news.

Smriti Irani was sent to the low-profile Textiles Ministry from Human Resource Development in Tuesday's reshuffle.

Meanwhile, Prakash Javadekar, who took charge of the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry today, reacted to Anwar's crass comment, saying: "This is the worst comment I had ever heard of".

Last year, a war of words had broken out between Irani and JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav over his remarks on the colour of women from South India.
