Kolkata: Amid the furore over an event at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, 'pro-separatist' pamphlets were distributed at a rally in the prestigious Jadavpur University in Kolkata on Thursday.

Today's development comes after slogans in favour of Afzal Guru were raised in a rally brought out by Jadavpur University students here on Tuesday to express solidarity with their JNU counterparts agitating against the arrest of their leader Kanhaiya Kumar for alleged sedition.



Reacting to the developments Jadavpur University vice chancellor Suranjan Das on Wednesday claimed certain "fringe elements" had indulged in such sloganeering.


Scores of ABVP activists today tried to enter Jadavpur University campus. A human chain was formed to stop ABVP's march into the campus.


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rupa Ganguly along with her supporters was also seen trying to enter the campus.



At the rally in Jadavpur on Tuesday, students also raised slogans chanting the names of SAR Geelani, a former professor of Delhi University who was arrested for raising anti-India slogans at the Press Club of India in Delhi.


Another slogan heard was: "Jo ishrat ne manga, azadi/Jo Manipur mange azadi/To Chheen ke lenge, azadi".


Meanwhile, several students staged protest at JNU gate in solidarity with Umar Khalid and JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar today.
