Mumbai: A Mumbai-based resident has sued the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for Rs 1.5 crore as damage after he accidentally slipped into a partially-covered manhole in the city.
Vijay Hingorani fell into an improperly covered manhole in Carter Road area in Mumbai on November 29, and was left with fractured leg and severe other injuries.
He had to travel to Bengaluru to take up a new job in December, a month later. However, now advised complete bed-rest for at least six months by doctors, Hingorani says he has lost the job opportunity.
Hingorani was to join on January 1 at a Bengaluru-based firm which offered him a monthly salary of Rs 2.5 lakh besides other benefits and perks. A sole breadwinner for his family, Hingorani sued the city-based corporation for Rs 1.5 crore as a compensation for loss of livelihood, physical injury and medical expenditure.
BMC officials are yet to react on the issue.
