Oft-complaining Congress responsible for `stalemated` Parliament: Jitendra Singh
Minister of State in the Prime Minister`s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Friday dubbed the ongoing deadlock in the Parliament over the controversy surrounding former IPL chief Lalit Modi and the Vyapam scam as `extremely unfortunate` and hoped that the Congress and other opposition members would take up some responsibility and live up to the expectations of the people.
New Delhi: Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Friday dubbed the ongoing deadlock in the Parliament over the controversy surrounding former IPL chief Lalit Modi and the Vyapam scam as 'extremely unfortunate' and hoped that the Congress and other opposition members would take up some responsibility and live up to the expectations of the people.
Dr Singh pointed out that there are several important legislations and Bills pending in the Parliament because of the ongoing stalemate by the opposition parties.
"It is a very unfortunate situation. There is a very important business pending in the House. We have the Land (Acquisition) Bill, we have the GST. As far as the DoPT is concerned, we have the Whistleblowers Bill, which in fact the Congress members have been insisting and have been complaining of delay," Dr Singh told ANI.
"In addition, we have the Prevention of Corruption Act Amendment Bill. So lot of business, lot of bills which the Congress members themselves had been complaining of suffering from delay are now suffering from delay on the account of disruption created by them," he added.
The Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office expressed hope that better sense would prevail upon the opposition members so that they allow the Parliament to function.
"I am sure that the entire nation of 125 crore is watching us and there are issues, which are related to the common man, I hope and wish the better sense will prevail and we live up to the expectations of the people who have voted us to be in this House," Dr. Singh said.
He pointed out that Parliament is meant for debate, discussion and exchange of ideas.
"I am sure the Congress members and all the other members across the party will realise their responsibility because this is precisely what we have been sent here to this August house for. And particularly when I said that we have such important business pending, like the Whistleblowers Bill etc, which were in fact flagged off by the Congress party itself," he added.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned till Monday only minutes after Parliament proceedings began today, a fourth day of work lost in the lower house this monsoon session.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till noon amid protests by the Congress lawmakers.
