New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid rich tribute to great freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his 150th birth anniversary.

While paying homage to the the freedom fighter, the Prime Minister tweeted: “Remembering the courageous Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary. He was a visionary whose patriotism & ideals inspired many people.”


Home Minister Rajnath Singh also remembered Lala Lajpat Rai, saying that the freedom fighter ignited the spirit of patriotism in India's youth during freedom struggle.


“Lala Lajpat Rai was a leader of impeccable character who worked tirelessly for the freedom of motherland. I offer my tributes to 'Lalaji',” the Home Minister tweeted.


The Punjab government has declared a public holiday for today on the 150th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter.
