Rajnath Singh appeals to states to address farmer crisis

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday appealed to the state governments to use the additional funds granted by the Centre to address the farmer crisis brought about by unseasonal rains.

Rajnath Singh took to twitter to share his appeal.

"The Centre has allocated enough funds to all the states by increasing their share of revenues from 32 percent to 42 percent," he posted.

"The states should immediately address the crisis facing the farmers. I appeal to farmers in distress not to commit suicide. We are with you," he added.

Unseasonable rains this year have damaged over 24.7 million acres of crops, but the government says that has no clear link to farmer suicides.

Debt-laden farmer s have already been suffering because of low incomes and weak global food prices.
