New Delhi: Shiv Sena member Arvind Sawant on Tuesday sought that the word 'Sindh' be removed from the national anthem and replaced with an appropriate word adding that India had no state by that name.

Sawant, who raised the issue during the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha today, said that as the national anthem was adopted by Parliament, it should initiate action to remove the word.


Sawant also added that the word 'Sindh' should be replaced with a correct word with appropriate pronunciation.


National anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' was composed by Nobel laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore in 1911, and was adopted by the Constituent Assembly in 1950.
