He said the draft for a national law banning cow slaughter was ready for long. It was prepared during previous NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee with help and inputs from various saints and VHP.

"The said draft is ready for long. Now, cow worshipers have formed the government of the cow lovers, so it is time that the government fulfills the long-awaited demand.

"It is time that the Union government resolves to pass the national law banning cow slaughter and make pious beginning towards total safety and prosperity of the nation," Togadia said in a statement.

Togadia, who was speaking on the occasion of Gopashtami, said, on this very day, 50 years ago the then RSS Sar Sanghchalak Golwalkar in the Prayag Hindu Congress had passed the resolution demanding a law for banning cow slaughter in the country.

Earlier, Togadia had criticised the BJP-led NDA government for terming cow vigilante groups as anti-social and had also demanded a nation-wide law for banning cow slaughter.
