Jammu: The BJP on Saturday announced that it will celebrate the Accession Day of Jammu and Kashmir with India on October 26.

"We will celebrate Accession Day on Monday, that is, on October 26. The Day should be celebrated like other festivals," BJP State General Secretary, Organisation, Ashok Kaul said.


Kaul, chairing a meeting, held discussions with the party leaders and sought their suggestions, giving final touch to the arrangements for party's programmes to be organised in connection with the Accession Day.


Kaul said that the Accession Day carries great significance for the nationalist people as it was on this day when the then Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of accession to become part of the greatest democracy of the world.


He asked the party leaders to organise colourful progammes in the respective areas of the district and mandal levels across the state to celebrate the day, and ensure the participation of the general public.


He also directed the leaders from Jammu city to make arrangements at the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh to organise a programme on the day besides illuminating the prominent rotaries of the city and fixing hoardings, flags etc.


General Secretary State BJP, Munish Sharma, said that the party activists should also reach the people to brief them about the accession and the importance of uniting nationalist forces in the state.
