According to initial reports, another terrorist is also believed to be trapped in the area where the gun battle is currently underway.

"Security forces surrounded an orchard in Gassu (Zakura) village of Srinagar district today after specific information was received about presence of militants there. After the militants hiding there were challenged, they fired at the security forces triggering a gunfight, during which one militant was killed," IANS quoted a police officer as saying.

The cop further said that the identity of the attackers has being established.

"Although firing exchanges have stopped, searches are still going on because there was intelligence information about two militants hiding in the orchard," the officer added.

The infiltration comes nine days after terrorists believed to be from Pakistan attacked Pathankot Indian Air Force base. Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said pain must be inflicted on those who hurt India.
